Panera sue company following security breach of personal data

Three months after Panera Bread skilled a massive systemwide tech outage in March that was extensively purported to be the results of a cybersecurity breach, the corporate started informing workers that private worker information had been leaked. Based on some staff posting on the Panera subreddit, a not insignificant variety of staff allegedly had their social safety numbers leaked.

Consequently, a former Panera worker has filed a proposed class action lawsuit — with a possible class of as much as 100 present and former staff — in opposition to the corporate for its “failure to guard extremely delicate information.” The lawsuit, filed within the Japanese District of Missouri by a former worker of Panera who labored there from 2022 to 2024, claims that Panera “did not adequately practice its staff on cybersecurity and failed to take care of affordable safety safeguards or protocols to guard [its employees].” Moreover, the lawsuit takes difficulty with the truth that Panera “waited a full 86 days” after the breach was found to inform affected staff.

The lawsuit states that Panera did inform affected staff that, “the information breach created a gift, persevering with, and vital danger of struggling id theft” and prompt that staff stay vigilant for situations of suspected id theft. Staff who acquired a letter have acknowledged that Panera is providing a 12 months of a free credit score monitoring service to control the safety of their private information. Because the breach, the lawsuit states that Panera claims it has “taken steps to additional improve current safety measures,” although no additional particulars have been launched.

The plaintiff is asking that the court docket grant the request for a category motion lawsuit, and award the category, “relevant compensatory, exemplary, punitive damages, and statutory damages,” because of the injury attributable to the information leak.
