Namakkal DCDRC seeks response from Collector, Food Safety Officer regarding girl’s death by food poisoning

The Namakkal District Shopper Disputes Redressal Fee (DCDRC) directed the Namakkal District Collector and District Meals Security Officer to reply to a case associated to the loss of life of a lady by meals poisoning on Thursday.

T. Sujatha (42), a resident of S.P. Pudhur, filed the case after her daughter Kalaiyarasi died of meals poisoning in September 2023 after consuming shawarma from a non-public restaurant on Paramathi Highway. Equally, 43 different folks, in addition to Sujatha and her son Bhupathi, who consumed shawarma from the identical resort, additionally fell unwell. The police have registered a case relating to the incident.

Alleging that the District Collector and Meals Security Officer failed to observe the eating places within the district, Ms. Sujatha filed a case at Namakkal DCDRC, demanding ₹50 lakh as compensation and likewise in search of compensation for the 43 individuals who had been affected.

The Namakkal DCDRC agreed to listen to the case and directed the Namakkal district collector, meals security officer, and restaurant proprietor to file their responses. The case was posted for listening to on 19 July.
